Christmas Rope Lights
Economical Landscape Lighting
Safety is always at the top of the list when installing any kind of lighting, including Christmas rope lights. Most people have seen that kind of lighting around palm trees, large roof areas and other natural or man-made features with intricate patterns.
Because the ropes are made with a poly (flexible plastic) material, the chance of electrical shock is minimal and the rope itself is cool if people are compelled to reach out and touch it. Durability, waterproofing and flexibility also add to the safety features, resisting malfunction due to exposure to the elements and enhancing the ability to fit around things securely.
The invention of LED lights resulted in the ability to keep areas cheerful and festive with many colors of lights. The 120-volt type of light consists of 18-inch circuits with a bulb encased every inch. If the assembler wants to vary the colors, it is easy to place a circuit of green between circuits of red and so on.
You can buy the rope in bulk spools or request shorter pieces. Never cut into the circuit area, however, because that ends the connectivity. Coil the ropes around trees or flagpoles. If a decorated chimney is an ambition, make a light round, fireproof frame to set around the chimney and swirl the lights around the frame. Bending ropes at angles may break the circuit.
If you are thinking of placing energy-saving lights such as this around your porch railing or outdoor fences, you will be glad to know even large-scale projects are not difficult at all. Light emitting diodes or LEDs, save energy up to an estimated 95 percent over regular lights.
No glass bulbs or filaments are needed, just small chips that convert electricity to light. They require a power cord, cap and connector to make them work, as well as an electrical outlet. Almost all commercially available rope lights are ready-made.
As a project to build over the years, make a list of areas you want to display in lights and start with the top ones, working your way down. It is fun and adds property value by gently casting light in dark areas and focusing on the best features of your home and land.
