Outdoor post lighting is an advantage around the yard. Once prized for its secluded areas, the yard now boasts subdued lighting, an encouraged addition to landscaping and the overall theme of home improvement. There are several reasons for the change. Technology is the largest one, since the means of acquiring lights at night have advanced from fire to electric, battery and solar power.
Analyze the yard to determine how much space is involved and where to place the lights. Use different lights to fill each need. If there are several walkways or shortcuts across a large yard, it is a candidate for outdoor lighting.
Adjust lighting to provide just enough light to show the path or wider circles of light to include the surrounding area. With walkways, make light posts high to avoid bumping heads and not so low that they will cause tripping. They can be set at any height, changing the intensity of light.
Outdoor post lighting truly adds safety and beauty to any part of the yard because of the many types of lamps available. Short or tall wood, metal and polymer posts are durable. Decorative holders are interchangeable around the yard, depending on landscaping themes and area of placement.
Use low posts in flower gardens to cast a soft glow on the plants and the edging. A taller post works well by dwarf fruit trees and tall plants, such as hollyhocks. Place shoulder height posts by gates to define their location.
Easily locate benches at night when an eight-foot pole is set behind them to shine softly on the benches and surrounding area. A sixteen-foot post is appropriate in vegetable gardens, pastures or near outbuildings, because it makes unwanted visitors avoid the area and provides light if there is a problem.
Another advantage of outdoor post lighting is the flexibility. Again, regardless of the style of your home or landscaping theme, there are styles to match. Moving posts back result in a wider circle of light and raising the lights with taller posts dims the light that hits the ground. A person can create the ambience for each section of yard with these simple adjustments.
For additional lighting, add more lights or change the post size. Motion sensor lights are ideal in urban areas because the light will turn on when something breaks the beam. They are good in rural areas beside outbuildings and in pastures. Because so many animals and large birds break the beam and cause the light to go on, turn motion sensor lighting away from windows on the house to avoid a tripped light from shining directly into the house.
Electrical post lights turn on and off at designated times. Solar post lighting activates around dusk. Not everyone is familiar with the decorative charmers that enhance landscaping. A butterfly in the garden that changes colors or a polymer frog resting on a lily pad with a soft golden glow shining through his tummy are only two of the decorative pieces that add flair and pizazz to the yard.
The lighting is inexpensive, adds beauty to the yard and repels trouble. A thief is apt to bypass a house and yard with lights and visit a dark place that hides approach and activity. Neighbors can see unusual activity at your place if you are away. Outdoor post lighting is incredible.
